The Holy Mass for the youth was attended by more than one million youth from 146 countries, seven thousand priests, 450 bishops, and more than 850 journalists. The Holy Father Pope Leo XIV – Closing Mass of the Jubilee of Youth 2025 Pope Leo XIV invited the youth to continue being united with Jesus in building friendships rooted in prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, participation in the Holy Mass, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He encouraged them to be witnesses of the Gospel of love, following the example of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and Blessed Carlo Acutis, lay faithful who will be canonized on September 7, 2025. On July 28, 2025, Pope Leo XIV launched the celebrations of the Jubilee of the Year 2025 of Christianity for Youth, calling on young people to be instruments, builders, and witnesses of peace and reconciliation. He stressed the importance of communication and testimony of faith as essential tools in building a world founded on unity and human fraternity. Pope Leo XIV reminded the youth that they are witnesses and pilgrims of hope and peace, saying: “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” (Mt 5:13-16). Salt is a sign of God’s glory, holiness, mercy, and love which heals and restores human weakness. Therefore, young people are called and sent to be salt and light of the world through attractive witness and active faith. Youth should be light to the nations and salt of the earth, starting within their families — putting an end to domestic violence, abuse of women, and other injustices — so as to live as children of the light of the Risen Christ. Christians are called to be the light for all who walk in darkness and the shadow of death. Peace is built on truth, justice, love, and authentic freedom — the principles explained in Saint John XXIII’s encyclical “Pacem in Terris” (Peace on Earth). Pope Leo XIV wants every parish to become a community of peace. Through this sacrament, believers receive forgiveness and peace after reconciling with God, neighbor, and creation. The main goal of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is communion with God and the Church — the Body of Christ. In this “court of God’s mercy,” the faithful experience forgiveness, renewal, and strength to continue in holiness of life.
