Establishment of the Catholic Diocese of Bagamoyo

On March 7, 2025, Pope Francis established the Catholic Diocese of Bagamoyo, appointing Bishop Stephano Lameck Musomba as its first bishop. Previously, Bishop Musomba served as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam. The new diocese was formed by partitioning the Diocese of Morogoro and remains a suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
